If you’ve been into West Kirby recently, you won’t have failed to notice the many colourful flower displays that have appeared.
It’s all the work of ‘West Kirby in Bloom’, a group of like-minded people who we reported on when they came together a year ago, determined to brighten up the town.
They have been supported in their efforts by local businesses, who have sponsored the planters.
Julie Dala from Shrimps Hair Design is one of the people involved in the group.
She told West Kirby Today: “We formed a committee and had fortnightly meetings throughout the winter months, planning our year ahead.
“We now have 14 rail planters, 8 large planters which we have inherited from Incredible Edible, pole planters and a lovely new bed of flowers on Grange Hill. We’ve planted by the postbox on the corner of Westbourne Road.
“We’ve got plans to plant up a boat and have done weekly weeding sessions around the Concourse since the coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.”
Rangers have built them a compost area at the end of the Wirral Way, and the volunteers are currently working hard on an overhaul of Hilbre View at the top of Grange Hill in order to create a colourful entrance to West Kirby.
Julie added: “We’re very proud of what we have achieved so far. West Kirby finally has colour! And I hear so many lovely comments all the time. It’s just many hands make light work, and it is very rewarding.
“We meet every Sunday morning at 10am. Any help is always welcome. It doesn’t need to be a weekly commitment.
“We’re a friendly bunch, just trying to improve our area and keep those weeds at bay.”
