A schoolboy was taken to hospital after slipping from a drainpipe.
Emergency services were called to West Kirby School and College, formerly known as West Kirby Residential School, on Meols Drive, just before noon today.
A statement from Merseyside Police said: “He has been taken to hospital for treatment to a non-life threatening ankle injury. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
Sian Thomas, Principal of West Kirby School and College, said: “The situation was managed throughout by our experienced staff team and emergency services fully supported staff and pupils. The incident was managed professionally and appropriately.
“The family of the pupil involved attended school, the pupil was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment and we are supporting them at this time. It would be inappropriate to comment further.
“The safety of our pupils is paramount and the School has been following its emergency procedures throughout this incident. The School will be conducting an investigation into this incident in due course.
“At this point we would like to thank the emergency services for their support and we continue to work with them. We also thank our neighbours for their continued support. ”
West Kirby School and College is a specialist education school for pupils aged 5-19 with complex educational needs.
