The funeral of Radio City founder and Hoylake resident Terry Smith will take place in the town on September 7th.

The 87-year-old, who had been married to wife Pamela for 37 years and had two sons and a stepdaughter, was associated with the station for almost four decades as Managing Director and later Chairman.

He died in the early hours of August 15th at Arrowe Park Hospital, following a short illness.

Prior to setting up Radio City, he was a journalist at The Sunday Express and Granada TV, before launching news agency Mercury Press in the early 70’s.

The staunch Reds fan was also a board member at Liverpool FC for 15 years.

His funeral – which is invitation only due to restrictions on numbers – will take place at St. Hildeburgh’s Parish Church at 1.30pm, and will be streamed here.

The family have requested family flowers only, and for donations to be made to the Salvation Army.
