Local tributes are being paid to Her Majesty The Queen, who has died at the age of 96.

In a statement on social media, West Kirby Lifeboat said: “On behalf of everyone involved with RNLI West Kirby, we send out heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“The Queen dedicated 70 years as patron of the RNLI. Her Majesty’s support for our Lifesavers – and our cause – will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.”

A similar message was posted by Hoylake RNLI.

Wirral West MP, Margaret Greenwood said on Twitter: “My thoughts are with the Royal Family at this very sad time.”

Wirral Council leader, Cllr Jan Williamson, said: “On behalf of Wirral, I want to thank the Queen for her dedication and undiminished love for her country. RIP.”

When the news broke yesterday evening, The Wro Bar and Loft closed its doors for the night as a mark of respect.

A Book of Condolence has been opened at West Kirby Concourse for people to leave tributes.
