Local businesses to close for funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

A national day of mourning for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will see shops and pubs in West Kirby and Hoylake close as a mark of respect.

Aldi and Morrisons supermarkets will both be shut, although the Morrisons petrol station in West Kirby and Sainsbury’s Local in Hoylake will open from 5pm.

Hospitality venues including The Wro, West Kirby Tap, The Sail Loft, Mon Ami, Costa Coffee, Nine Leaves Tea Lounge and Costa Coffee have announced they are closed for the day.

The Dee Hotel and Hoylake Lights, both owned by JD Wetherspoon, will open after the funeral – in line with other pubs in the chain, while Hickory’s Smokehouse in West Kirby will open at 3pm.

The government has announced that all GP surgeries will be closed.

West Kirby Concourse will be shut, as will the council’s telephone call centre. Bin services, and weddings and funerals in council venues, are unaffected.

Merseyrail will operate a normal service, but Stagecoach and Arriva buses will be running to a Sunday timetable.

The Book of Condolence at West Kirby library will close at 5pm on Tuesday 20 September.
