Hoylake, Meols and West Kirby railways stations have been honoured at a ceremony to recognise the work of volunteers and community groups in keeping them looking smart.

The Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards showcase the work done keeping platforms and ticket offices looking smart. Wirral is included in recognition of the fact it used to be part of Cheshire.

At the awards ceremony, held at the Grange Theatre in Northwich, Hoylake won the Wirral award.

Meols was awarded the ‘In Bloom’ prize, and West Kirby was highly commended in the same category.

Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Jeff Green, was on hand to accept the awards.

Mark Barker, Chair of Cheshire Best Kept Stations said: “Tonight’s Awards Evening is a celebration and a thank you for all the volunteers and community groups who do so much to brighten up our stations in Cheshire.

“We can celebrate something to be truly proud of at so many of our Cheshire stations. We have seen some truly excellent work from volunteers and staff at stations right across Cheshire.”

Cheshire Best Kept Stations was founded by businessman, John Hulme BEM, who saw the potential for community involvement in Cheshire’s local stations and recognised the need to motivate and inspire people.
