Royal Liverpool Golf Club member Matthew Jordan has secured a place competing at The Open on his home course.
He won a berth at the championship with a great performance at a qualifier at West Lancashire Golf Club.
The 27 year-old recorded a bogey-free seven-under 65 in the first round to hold the clubhouse lead, before a 69 on Tuesday afternoon was good enough to finish in a share of second place at ten under.
Matthew has been a member at Royal Liverpool since he was a boy, and both his father and grandfather also have heritage at the club.
He played in the 2017 Walker Cup and has since won on the European Challenge Tour before progressing to the DP World Tour, has qualified for The Open through final qualifying for the second consecutive year.
He said: “I can’t imagine what is is going to be like come two weeks time…I cannot wait to get there…see you at Hoylake!”
Royal Liverpool Golf Club tweeted their congratulations: “He’s done it! Huge congratulations to Matty Jordan on securing a spot at his home Open here at #RLGCHoylake in a couple of weeks’ time, courtesy of a fantastic performance in Final Qualifying at West Lancs today.”
