West Kirby restaurant 625 has launched a new summer menu.

The Banks Road eatery, which specialises in small plates and bar snacks, opened last year, run by father and son Steve Carney and Charlie Parsons, with support from other members of the family.

A combination of rising energy costs and the cost-of-living crisis has led to a refocusing of the menu to take into account the financial squeeze many diners are experiencing.

Steve and Charlie told West Kirby Today: “We have listened to our customers and although our first year open was amazing, we have taken on board our customers feedback along with having to adapt to the major rise in costs and energy rises.

“In response, we have come up with a new summer menu along with weekly specials that are all made in house and prepared fresh every day, at the same time as keeping in mind affordability for our customers.”

Items on the menu, cooked fresh from scratch in their kitchen, include homemade sausage roll, classic prawn cocktail, crispy chicken Korean sliders, through to more substantial dishes including a steak sandwich, cheeseboards and a sharing ploughman’s. There is something for all pockets with most items on the menu costing around £8.

Steve and Charlie are also keen for 625 to be more than just a restaurant. People can pop in for a drink, or attend their fortnightly QED (Quiz. Eat. Drink) which takes place every other Thursday (£12 entry including a special quiz dish). They also hold wine tasting evenings, hosted by their local supplier.

They said: “We don’t just want to be a special occasion place. We hope that people feel like they can just call in for a drink or a cocktail, try some of our small plates/bar snacks and see what we have new on our wine list. Or they can just sit outside have a coffee and watch the world go by.

“The concept of 625 was borne around our kitchen table at home in West Kirby where we love to entertain and share great dishes with our friends and family. We like tradition but we also like to keep things current.”

625 is located at 86 Banks Road in West Kirby. It is open Wednesday and Thursday from 5-11pm, and Friday – Sunday from 12-11pm. Call 0151 625 8565 to book a table, and find them on Facebook and Instagram.

They will be extending their opening hours to 12 midday – 12:30am during the Open Golf Championship, from Monday 17 July – Sunday 23 July.
