Christmas lights in Hoylake and Meols will be switched on this Saturday, 25 November.

Local residents and businesses have donated many thousands of pounds to make the area sparkle this festive season, and the main lighting event takes place on Market Street, starting from 4pm with the switch-on at 6pm.

To get youngsters into the festive mood, Nine Leaves coffee shop are running a free workshop from 4pm where children can write their Christmas lists to Santa.

Meanwhile, Melrose Hall are showing a free screening of ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ at 2pm. Book your place by calling 0151 632 2152 or 0151 632 4548.

The pink winter lights were turned on at the end of October and will remain on until the clocks go forward at the end of March, while 70 memory snowflakes were switched on last Sunday.

The fundraising covers the cost of things such as an electrician to install and take down the lights, maintaining and replacing lights, insurance and a storage container.

Next year, Hoylake and Meols Christmas Lights will have to replace the pink lights, which will cost in the region of £20,000, and they will be doing some additional fundraising in the new year.
