Work has begun removing festive decorations in West Kirby, Hoylake and Meols.

West Kirby Christmas Lights and Hoylake and Meols Christmas Lights have flicked the ‘off’ switch on their annual displays.

West Kirby Christmas Lights said on Facebook: “It’s time to say goodbye for now!! The Christmas lights will be switched off in the next day or two. We hope you’ve enjoyed them. Thank you to everyone in our wonderful community who has contributed and donated. See you all next year.”

Hoylake and Meols Christmas Lights said on Facebook that although they have switched off their multi-coloured displays and taken down three big Christmas trees, their pink seasonal lights on trees along Market Street “will remain lit until the clocks go forward at the end of March, signalling the start of spring, when the real pink blossom takes over.”

Thousands of pounds is donated every year by local people to help fund thousands of lights on lamp posts and trees.

Hoylake and Meols Christmas Lights will be fundraising this year to replace their pink seasonal lights and estimate they will need to find £20,000.
