A former West Kirby lifeboat crew member has told how he thought he was going to die when he was capsized in a yacht off Lands End.

James Gaskin has spoken to the RNLI’s 200 Voices podcast about his experience, which happened near the end of a solo sailing trip from Brittany to Ireland.

He was caught in squalls in the middle of a shipping lane off The Lizard when he became trapped under a sail after being thrown overboard in pitch darkness, miles out to sea on a stormy night.

He thought his time was up, fearing a giant tanker might run over him.
