Police have arrested a man after a vehicle collided with several cars in West Kirby.

The drama happened shortly before 10am this morning after officers received reports of a man driving dangerously on Overchurch Road in Upton.

Police tracked the vehicle to Orrysdale Road and Anglesey Road in West Kirby, with eyewitnesses describing police forcing the car to a halt, but not before it had damaged other vehicles.

West Kirby Primary School activated its lockdown procedure, with pupils ordered in to safe spaces away from external doors and windows.

A man was ordered to get down on the ground by officers and later taken away.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “A 60 year old man from Wirral was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and being under the influence of drink or drugs.”

A Volkswagen Polo has been seized.
