Two groups of people became trapped on Little Eye over the weekend.

West Kirby RNLI were scrambled on Saturday 1 February at 10.48am following reports of a woman, child and dog stranded by the rising tide.

As soon as the crew were on scene, they spotted the trio making their way back to shore, successfully wading out of the deeper water.

With them safely ashore and being checked over by the Coastguard’s rescue team, the lifeboat crew carried out a sweep of Hilbre Island and came across three men who had become stranded by the tide and required assistance.

The men were rescued by the lifeboat and transported back to shore, where one casualty required minor first aid treatment.

West Kirby RNLI said: “Thankfully the first casualty had immediately used her mobile phone to dial 999, and asked for the Coast Guard, she made the right call without delay, enabling the Lifeboat to be on scene so quickly.

“Although the walkers on Hilbre had planned their trip carefully, the waters around the Island rose quickly, leaving them stranded.”
