New parking restrictions come into force around West Kirby Grammar School

New parking restrictions have been introduced around West Kirby Grammar School to try and relieve issues for local residents at the start and end of the school day.

Neighbours on Graham Road have previously told West Kirby Today of incidents including damage to wing mirrors and facing a battle to leave their homes at the start and end of the school day due to coaches, buses and cars dropping off and picking up students.

Some residents have been resorting to parking on the pavement outside their drives to make sure they are not blocked in.

Their concerns were heightened after the school’s successful planning application to build a new sixth form block and community sports hall – although the school said Graham Road will not be impacted as no access will be available to the sports hall from that side of the site. It also plans to progress a ‘travel plan framework’ to try and reduce the number of journeys to and from school by car.

Now a traffic regulation order has come into force which increases the areas of Graham Road where no waiting is allowed. It is designed to prevent parking or waiting from 8am – 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Residents were supported in the application by local councillor Max Booth, who told us: “After eighteen months of working with the council, local residents, and WKGS, we’re delighted to see the implementation of the new single yellow lines (TRO).

“While it’s very early days, we’re hoping this will help alleviate pressures on Graham Road during peak school hours.

Cllr Booth told us he is set to carry out more work collaborating with the council’s school team, coach companies and local sixth-form students on the issue.
