Repairs are being carried out on an outfall pipe at the Dee Lane end of West Kirby Marine Lake.

Described as “essential maintenance”, it is being under taken by a specialist contractor appointed by United Utilities, working in partnership with Wirral Council and the Environment Agency.

A statement on Wirral Watersports Centre Facebook page said: “The work includes the replacement of the tidal flex valve and cleaning of the outfall pipe.

“The cleaning of the pipe will be undertaken by the pumping out of the sand and silt into a lorry for appropriate disposal.

“The work is being undertaken when tides are not expected to reach the outfall.

“While this work is being undertaken, a straw bale bund will be built around the outfall as a precaution to capture any excess spills of sediment.”

The Marine Lake is open as normal and it is expected the work will be completed by the end of the week.
