A borehole has been opened at Hoylake allotments, bringing water access to the site for the first time in its 100 year history.
The project was made possible through a combination of community fundraising alongside a grant from the National Lottery.
Flintshire-based Dragon Drilling had to bore to a depth of 53 metres to connect the supply, which means drinking-quality water is now available to the entire site
Hoylake Allotment Association chairman Adam Valentine said: “With the changes in climate, this water provision will become a valuable asset to the site.
“We have all already seen the benefit during the driest start to a year since records began.”
The opening ceremony was attended by local MP Matthew Patrick.
Hoylake Allotments’ next annual Open Day, a key fundraising event that helped make the project possible, is scheduled for Sunday, 20 July from 12:00 to 16:00.
