Tributes have been paid to a well-known artist from West Kirby, who has passed away.
Jim Fleming was probably best-known for his giant mural which adorned the walls of the original Slinky’s on Banks Road.
As well as being an artist and illustrator, he was also a poet, author, songwriter and performer, and described himself as an “illustrative journalist”. In 2018, he exhibited work at West Kirby Arts Centre.
He worked with many local organisations and businesses, including West Kirby Farmers’ Market, who said they were sad to hear of his passing, adding: “Jim was a lovely, creative man and a very talented artist who did many pictures for the market.”

In a post on his Facebook page, his children Rob and Amy have thanked people for their anecdotes, memories and photographs of their dad.
They have said that people are welcome to attend his funeral service, which is taking place at West Kirby United Reformed Church at 2pm on Tuesday 2 September.
They wrote: “The service will feature songs, music, readings, as well as prayer and hymns. While we know many of you will wish to wear black, we would also invite everyone to wear some colour, as Jim would have wanted.
“The Fleming family are intending to wear a little of both, and we would encourage you to do likewise. Jim was colourful, in both his character and his choice of jumpers and hats.
“After the service, there will be some food, drink and an opportunity for his many friends and relatives to catch up and remember Jim, also at the church and the church hall.”.
“From 4pm to 6pm, there will be some live music, songs and other entertainment at the church. We are hoping that the choirs, bands and troupes that Dad was part of in recent years will each contribute to this, alongside any others who wish to be involved.
“We want everyone to have the chance to remember Jim in their own way.”
