Tributes have been paid to the driving force behind the Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom, who has passed away.

Jan Foster was the chair of the voluntary group who work so hard to keep the town looking green, tending to flower beds and planters as well as locations including Parade Gardens, Queens Park and Hoylake and Meols railway stations.

In a post on their Facebook page, the group said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the sad news that Jan Foster has passsed away today aged 72 following her short but extremely courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

“She was an inspiration to the village and her family and nothing made her happier than making the village smile.”

Jan had posted updates about her illness on the Friends’ Facebook page, thanking people for their support after an operation in May, and revealing at the end of July that she had decided not to continue with chemotherapy.

Local councillors Andrew Gardner, Tony Cox and Max Booth also paid tribute, describing Jan as “an extraordinary individual – a true pillar of our community and an absolute hero whose tireless efforts transformed our village into a warmer, more vibrant place to work and live.”
