Railway regulars cut ribbon at reopening

Railway Meols Ribbon Cutting with Arlene Baker, general manager Liberty Chrystall, and Mike and Carol Cotgrave

Three longstanding regulars have helped reopen the Railway pub in Meols, following a refurbishment.

To celebrate the relaunch, the Railway invited local residents Mike and Carol Cotgrave and Arlene Baker to cut the ribbon marking the pub’s official opening.

Mike and Carol have frequented the Railway for over 40 years and their two grandchildren worked behind the bar, while Arlene is a familiar face to locals after dedicating 17 years of her life to working at the pub.

The Railway also donated to local rugby team Hoylake RFC as part of its efforts to support local community initiatives.

Key features include a complete transformation of the interior, with what owner Greene King describes as “stylish new furniture, carpeting and décor to revitalise the pub’s appearance and enhance comfort for guests”, as well as new toilets, TV screens and sound systems.

There is also a new menu, whilst outside the garden furniture and fencing have been replaced.

Liberty Chrystall, general manager at the Railway, said: “Nestled in the heart of The Wirral and just a short walk from Meols Beach, the Railway is a much-loved venue that is part of the fabric of the local community.

“We know our regulars have been patiently awaiting an update on our reopening, and so we’re delighted to announce that our doors are once again open.”
