Almost 50 drivers have been caught speeding through Caldy, in an operation carried out by volunteers and Merseyside Police.
Caldy Road Safer Roads Watch say they recorded 49 vehicles travelling at 30mph or more through the 20mph zone on Wednesday.
In total they found 36 vehicles travelling at over 30mph, eight at 35mph or more and one travelling at 44mph – more than twice the speed limit.
On the Caldy Community Group Facebook page, they said: “It’s important to highlight that these speeds are far too high, given that we live in a conservation area.
“Our roads are regularly used by walkers, cyclists, parents with prams, and horse riders, and everyone deserves to feel safe using them. The figures shared are based only on drivers travelling at over 50% above the speed limit.
“While some high speeds were recorded, it was encouraging to see many drivers travelling sensibly and responsibly. Things are getting better!”
They say that operations are to increase this year “with a zero-tolerance approach to excessive speed”, and that police have also been monitoring issues near Avalon School where some vehicles park on double yellow lines.
