Hoylake Library will shut its doors at the end of October.
The Market Street site is one of nine closing as part of £27 million of council budget cuts, with the buildings offered to community and not-for-profit organisations – if they can come up with viable proposals.
In recent years it has only been open every Monday and alternate Saturday mornings.
Officials are currently assessing a proposal by The Life Tree to take over the Market Street site. Their ideas including using it to host book clubs and story time sessions, as well as it being a base for community groups and events. A cafe is also proposed.
Wirral Council said: “While the doors to the nine libraries will close, a number of community and not-for-profit organisations have shown an interest in taking some of the library sites over. These organisations have submitted a business case to the council to show how they would take over and run the sites as community assets.
“These business cases are currently being assessed and councillors will vote to decide if they are progressed at a meeting of the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee on 26th October 2022.”
The other sites closing are: Irby, Pensby, Prenton, Wallasey Village, Woodchurch, Higher Bebington, Bromborough and New Ferry
Libraries remain open in the following locations: West Kirby, Moreton, Greasby, Bebington Central, Beechwood, Birkenhead Central, Eastham, Heswall, Leasowe, Moreton, Rock Ferry, Seacombe, St James, Upton and Wallasey Central.
