Merseyrail services will be severely reduced due to strike action this coming week.

Due to planned 24-hour strikes by Network Rail staff who are members of the RMT union, there will be a limited service on Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14, Friday 16 and Saturday 17 December.

A 45-minute timetable will operate, with the first service for Liverpool leaving West Kirby at 07:30, and the last at 17:15. The first train from Liverpool to West Kirby will depart Moorfields at 08:00 and the final service at 17:45.

Merseyrail said: “Whilst Merseyrail staff are not part of this industrial action, it will involve Network Rail staff who operate the signalling systems and provide maintenance support.

“There will be no rail replacement buses on strike days and passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements if you cannot make your planned journey using the train service that will operate.”

On Thursday 15 December, trains on the West Kirby to Liverpool line will be reintroduced from 06:51, with a rail replacement bus departing West Kirby at 06:00, calling at Birkenhead North at 06:20 and arriving at Moorfields at 06:50.

Tickets for 13, 14, 16 and 17 December can instead be used the day before the date on the ticket, or up to and including Tuesday 20 December.

Tickets for 24, 26, and 27 December can instead be used on 23 December or up to and including Thursday 29 December.
