Former Hoylake bar set to become retail unit with apartments

Plans have been submitted to convert the former Whitt’s End bar in Hoylake into a smaller retail unit and extend the rear to create apartments.

Planning permission was granted for the part change of use of the upper floors to form two
flats in 2021, but the latest application seeks to create five, including one on part of the ground floor.

The application, by planning consultants Town Planning Experts, states: “The applicants now seek to extend the building in order to allow a further three dwellings on the site (a total of 5).

“Further, in recognition of the changing pattern of retail development nationally the proposal seeks to retain a retail unit of reduced size that is more commensurate with the range of retail units found within the Key Town Centre.”

It adds: “The proposed development would seek to increase the height of the rear wing by adding two-storey’s (one of which within a mansard roof).

“As such the proposed development would be commensurate with the scale and appearance of the host building and would be subservient in height.”
