West Kirby Social Club to close its doors

West Kirby Social Club has announced it will close its doors for good on Friday 2 February.

Members of the club – which has been a fixture on Banks Road for decades – were told the news at an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday evening.

West Kirby Today understands that although members were given a vote on the closure, they were also told there was no other option due to its financial position. The club had already taken the step of cancelling its subscription to show football games. Some of the members who were present abstained from taking part in the vote.

One member told us its numbers had been dwindling, and that the club building was sold and leased back several years ago, in order to generate money to keep it open.

A notice outside the club about the meeting to discuss its closure

In a statement on Facebook, the club said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of West Kirby Social Club on Friday, 2nd February. We sincerely appreciate the support and camaraderie of all our members and patrons throughout the years.

“As we bid farewell, we reflect on the memories and connections made within these walls. Thank you for being a valued part of the West Kirby Social Club community. Your presence has made a lasting impact.

“We hope you cherish the memories and continue to create new ones. Farewell, and thank you for being a part of our journey.”
