A new dog-friendly bar and bistro is opening this week in West Kirby.
Monty’s in the Old Bank building on Banks Road is the brainchild of Danielle Roberts and her daughter Liberty, who live locally.
Danielle is no stranger to the hospitality business, having previously run The Mouse at Brimstage.
Danielle said: “We’ve always loved food and we’ve loved to travel, and through reflection of this we’ve launched Monty’s. So the food is very European based, mezze tapas style, hopefully something totally different than anybody else in West Kirby because we are a local family and we would never want to tread on anybody else’s toes.
“We’re doing something quite unique really. We quite like Spanish food, we go to a place in Spain – a churros cafe – so we’ve imported a huge churros machine from Spain over the last couple of months, and we intend to launch with them and then go to bistro-type food of an evening.”
The venue is named after their black Labrador, Monty, and Danielle said: “We are super dog friendly and offer doggy afternoon teas and a full dog menu – Sunday roast, fish and chips, dog beer, ‘paw’ star martinis, and we just want to serve the local community really.”
The building was formerly a bank and latterly a gym, before laying empty for several years.
The outside of Monty’s
Danielle said: “Hopefully now with my interior design background we’ve added a new lease of life into the building. We’ve decked the garden outside, so we are I think the only place on Banks Road with a garden, and that will also be dog friendly.”
“We’ve had a lovely reception from everybody, and I think they’re really excited for it to open.”
Liberty, a former St Bridget’s C of E primary school pupil, told us: “It’s kind of like a mix of both of us. We’ve both had input on the menu, both had input on the design, so I guess that feels like it’s more our kind of thing.
She added that she is excited about working with her mum: “I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else!”
Monty’s will be open from 9am – 9pm from Wednesday 5 June.
