West Kirby Rotary Club is celebrating a decade of fundraising.
The organisation began life in 2014 as a satellite club of Royden Revolve Rotary Club.
Since it was formed it has donated £36,000 for dozens of good causes including the RNLI, West Kirby in Bloom, the Quirky Cafe, the Festival of Firsts, West Kirby Santa Dash, Transition Town West Kirby, as well as national and international charities such as the Royal British Legion, Cancer Research UK and the Disasters Emergency Committee.
Angela Macauley from West Kirby Rotary Club, told us: “We have made many friends and had so much fun along the way and are absolutely delighted to have raised many thousands of pounds in that time.
“We favour supporting local charities, such as the RNLI in their bid to raise funds for a new lifeboat recently, but have also been able to help national, international and Rotary charities too including End Polio, The Wheelchair Foundation and Rotary Ride for Prostate Cancer.
“West Kirby businesses have embraced us and allowed us to use their facilities to come together – in particular The Wro, West Kirby Social Club, Wetherspoon’s, West Kirby Tap, Westbourne Hall and the local library.
“We have clearly made an impact and are well known in the area for either running fundraising events ourselves, or teaming up with others to help them run or marshal theirs such as the Rotary Wirral Walk, West Kirby Christmas Lights switch on, running the café at Wirral Earthfest or by making a direct donation to perhaps a small, local charity which can make a massive difference to them.
“We are delighted to be in a position now where we can offer small grants of up to £200 for local charities and good causes.”
