A climbing wall and mural dedicated to former West Kirby Grammar School pupil Jessica Baker has been officially unveiled.
The 15-year-old died in a coach crash on the M53 as she was travelling to school in September 2023, and the driver of the vehicle, Stephen Shrimpton, also passed away.
Jessica was a keen rock climber, and had represented Wales in national competitions.
Following discussions with pupils and her family, a fundraising drive was launched to pay for the 20 foot structure, with a total of £43,000 pledged, and work on installing it began in June.
The mural which goes alongside it has been painted by Paul Curtis, who is famed for his public artwork in Liverpool.
At a special sponsored climb last Saturday, students and staff raised more than £2,000 for Climbers Against Cancer.
On Facebook, West Kirby Grammar School said: “We were honoured to open Jess’ climbing wall on Saturday.
“Jess’ friends & family, WKGS students & staff climbed all day to celebrate the opening & remember Jess.
“A beautiful mural, painted by Liverpool Artist Paul Curtis, was also unveiled.
“We were delighted to be able to present ‘Climbers against cancer’ with a donation from our fundraising efforts.
“The day was filled with happy memories of Jess, along with laughter, fun & positivity. A lasting, fitting tribute to Jess that will have an impact on our community for years to come.”
