Luxury apartments in the running for design prize

The Sail West Kirby

The newest development on the front at West Kirby has been shortlisted for a top award.

The Sail is an art-deco scheme of eight apartments on the site of the former Betton House on South Parade, boasting panoramic views across the Dee Estuary.

Architects Falconer Chester Hall say they took inspiration from famous buildings including the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool and the Midland Hotel in Morecambe when designing the four-storey structure.

Finishing touches are still being made to the development

Developer Blueoak Estates have revealed the flats were snapped up off-plan by buyers for a total sale price of £6.75 million.

Now the scheme has been shortlisted in the north west heat of the RICS Awards 2019 – which are regarded as the premier property and construction awards in the country, celebrating the most innovative projects across the land.

The Sail is up against five others in the ‘residential’ category on Friday 10 May, with the winner going through to the national final later this year.

Iain MacLean, Director of Blueoak Estates, said, “We were delighted to be shortlisted for the RICS Award for the second consecutive year. We always strive to ensure that our homes offer our buyers a luxury finish and state-of-the-art design.

“The Sail has set a precedent for accommodation in Wirral. Its success has acted as a catalyst for Blueoak Estates’ continued investment in the area with similar schemes now in progress in West Kirby, Hoylake, Caldy and Heswall.”

The scheme was approved by planners in 2017 after a previous application for 10 apartments was rejected by Wirral Council, due to concerns over the impact on neighbouring buildings.
