The Royal Liverpool in Hoylake has been named in a list of the top 100 golf courses in the world.
The annual ‘golfscape’ official rankings are put together with the help of industry leaders, with courses ranked for their condition, memorability, aesthetics, playability, course facilities and overall experience.
The judges said about Royal Liverpool: “Standing strong for 150 years, the 18 holes here have seen many big names and continue to engage and test visitors.
“Dog legs, cleverly placed bunkers, and natural undulations serve to make your game interesting in this historic location.”
It is one of only four courses in the UK to make the list – the others are Royal Birkdale in Sefton, Longcross in Surrey and Royal Porthcawl in Wales.
Last year the course hosted the Walker Cup for the first time since 1983, while the Open is to return in 2022 for what will be the 13th time.
