Primary school pupils and teachers across West Kirby have been celebrating World Book Day today.

Schools and nurseries across the town encouraged children to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book.

Joanna Callaway, headteacher of Avalon School, in Caldy Road, joined in with the fun by dressing up as Mary Poppins.

Pupils enjoyed a day of activities marking the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl and the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter, by dressing as characters from some of their most popular books.

Miss Jessica Mault, English Subject Leader, at Black Horse Hill Infant School, said: “The children and staff in Black Horse Hill Infant School have been marking 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl by taking part in a range of exciting activities relating to Roald Dahl’s stories.

“The children came to school early one morning in their pyjamas to take part in ‘Book Swap Breakfast’, whereby they enjoyed having their breakfast in school and were able to swap a book that they have read with a friend’s book.

“The children also dressed up as a Roald Dahl character on World Book Day and took part in a catwalk to showcase the different characters.”
