A one-way system will be in place around West Kirby tip when it reopens next week, and residents are being warned of queues of up to four hours due to social distancing measures.

Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority is reopening all of its sites on Monday 4 May from 8am – 8pm, but there will be strict guidelines for people to follow.

The key points are:

  • Only three cars allowed on site at one time and no vans/commercial vehicles/trailers
  • One person per vehicle (Blue Badge holders can be accompanied by one family member)
  • Site employees will be unable to assist with unloading

Greenbank Road will be closed westbound between Jubilee Drive and Gresford Avenue, with road closures and residents access only restrictions on adjoining side roads, some of which will be stewarded.

Buses will be diverted, with details of the route changes available here.

Wirral Council says the tips should only be used to get rid of excess waste – and are urging people not to have a mass clear out ahead of them reopening.

They are also recommending that residents hold off for a week or so until they have quietened down.
