Crowds gather to watch annual Wirral Dragon Boat

Crowds gathered to watch the annual Wirral Dragon Boat race yesterday which was back for its fifth year.

Twenty one teams took to the water to raise money for Headway Wirral, a charity which provide services and support to people, their relatives and carers who have suffered an acquired brain injury.

Teams took part from event sponsors’ Carpenters, Merseyside Police, Exchange Chambers, Weightmans, Law Costing, BLM, Stanley School, RSA, Auger and The Viking Pub & Bakehouse, captained by TV chef Simon Rimmer.

Also on the water were independent teams, including 2 teams of mums from St Bridget’s School and a team of friends the ‘Privateers’.

The event took place on Saturday July 2, from 10:30 and 14:30, with Wirral Mayor Pat Hackett opening the event and Carpenters CEO Donna Richards presenting the award to the winning team, Auger, following the final.
