Did you know that West Kirby is home to one of the UK’s most successful youth windsurfing clubs?

The West Kirby Warriors train at Wirral Sailing Centre and are multiple winners of the T15 RYA/UKWA National Windsurfing Championships.

One of the team member’s is 16-year-old, Caitlin Boothroyd, who has just
returned from Lake Garda in Italy where she was competing in the Youth World Championships using hydro-foiling windsurfers, the latest craze which has been chosen as the new Olympic class for windsurfing.

Caitlin said: “With windfoiling you can sail in much less wind than you need for normal windsurfing, but still at really fast speeds.

“Racing on this kit in the World Champs was really exciting but also very challenging, with plenty of crashes!”

West Kirby Warriors train at the Marine Lake from May to October on Friday evenings.

They will be hosting a regional Interclub event on September 5, before heading to the National Windsurfing Championships at Grafham Water on September 11 and 12.
