Colin Lunt fruit and veg shop in Hoylake is to close its doors later this month, with the owners citing spiralling energy prices and the cost of living crisis as the main reasons for the decision.

The store on Market Street opened in August 2020 as an addition to their long-established West Kirby site, which will continue to trade as normal.

Businesses are struggling with the rising cost of gas and electricity which, unlike domestic supplies, does not have a price cap.

The statement on their Facebook page reads: “Unfortunately, we need to close the Hoylake shop on Saturday 17th September.

“There are a few reasons – but the main 2 reasons are the current cost of living crisis and the uncapped, uncontrolled rise in commercial energy prices.

“We are not able to continue to absorb these unrealistic rises in both our shops, along with the increase in wholesale prices.  We are also not willing to pass these onto our loyal customers; times are hard enough.

“We have truly loved being in and part of the Hoylake community and we are devastated to have to make this decision.

“Hoylake will always hold a special place in our hearts for commercial and personal reasons.

“We will continue to trade as normal from our West Kirby shop, where the amazing team are always on hand to help and advise.  We will still offer the same high-quality produce, served by our expert team, but just from the one location.

“We send out our sincere apologies to all our wonderful loyal customers and please do keep shopping with us, we still have some big bills to pay and it would be lovely to see you before we go.”

Everyone who comes into the Hoylake shop before it closes will receive a discount gift to redeem at the West Kirby store.

The West Kirby shop will also be offering people in Hoylake and Meols free delivery on any orders over £20.
