Hoylake Sailing Club’s traditional bonfire night and firework display raised almost £3,000 for the RNLI.
Hundreds of spectators lined the promenade to see the bonfire and watch the spectacular firework display on the beach last Friday, which was sponsored by Kid’s Planet Hoylake Day Nursery.
For some young visitors, it was the first firework display they had ever seen after the event’s postponement in recent years.
Volunteers from Hoylake and West Kirby RNLI and the local community kept the crowds safe and collected donations from the public, raising a grand total of £2951.26 for the two local lifeboat stations.
Adam Lloyd, Captain at Hoylake Sailing Club and a Hoylake RNLI volunteer himself, said: “It was a huge pleasure for the club to host this important community event again and to see so many people out enjoying the bonfire and fireworks on the beach.
“We have close historic links with our local lifeboat stations and we are thrilled with the total raised to support the RNLI’s lifesaving work at sea.”
Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Howie Owen said: ‘We can’t thank everyone enough for donating so generously, especially in these challenging times.
“We are so grateful to everyone at Hoylake Sailing Club and Kid’s Planet for organising the fantastic display and to our crews and other volunteers for making sure it was a safe and fun community event.”
