West Kirby RNLI has launched a fundraising appeal to buy a new lifeboat.
The current D class vessel is now 20 years old and nearing the end of its operational life, meaning they need to secure the money for a new one.
They need the help of the public to find the final £50,000 towards the total cost of £89,000.
West Kirby lifeboat has launched 55 times over the last two years alone, helping save three lives and aid 61 people.
Chris Gatenby, Senior Helm at West Kirby RNLI, said: “With a new D class lifeboat, I’ll have the right equipment, the right training and the right boat. I’ve never gone out on a dark and stormy night and worried about having the right kit – the D class can take on anything.
“The lifeboat is ideal for the area’s shallow waters, and the types of rescues we carry out – she can get in close to cliffs and rocks, and can even be beached if necessary. With your help, we’ll be able to rely on the D class for many years to come.”
Richard Diamond, Lifeboat Operations Manager, added: “By helping to provide us with a new D class you’ll make a real lifesaving difference in the local community.”
Since 1966, West Kirby Lifeboat Station has launched around 900 times and saved 225 lives.
It has 22 crew and 13 other volunteers.
