The LAKE gallery celebrates its first birthday this weekend.

To celebrate, they are offering an open invite to drop in to their unit on Grange Road on Saturday 7 October from 10am – 4pm for a slice of cake and a chance to win some fabulous arty prizes.

An independent, artist-led venture, the gallery was set up last autumn by three Wirral-based creatives: glass artist Helen Smith, painter Clare Flinn and mixed media artist Marianthi Lainas (pictured above).

Gallery owner, Helen Smith, said: “The past twelve months have flown by, and we’d like to thank everyone who has supported our gallery and our exhibiting artists, and for making our first year such a successful one.

“We would love you to pop in to the gallery to help us celebrate this Saturday – there will be cake (while it lasts!) and we’re offering some some fantastic prizes, including printmaking and fused glass workshops with our gallery artists, gallery gift vouchers and more, in our free prize draw.”

Helen added: “Over the past year we’ve shown the work of over 60 accomplished artists, many of them local, some from further afield, and all at different stages in their careers. As well as a curated exhibitions of paintings, printmaking, mixed media and photography, we’re really proud of our growing reputation for showing the best in contemporary craft. “

“We’re committed to putting West Kirby firmly on the map as a destination for art lovers and we’ve welcomed many, many visitors over the past twelve months, not just from our own local area but those who have travelled from across the country to enjoy work by emerging and established artists.

“We’re so proud of our beautiful coastal area and thrilled to be part of West Kirby’s vibrant community of independent cafes and shops. Art, followed by lunch and a walk round the marine lake – what could be better?”

Every five weeks there is a fresh collection on the gallery walls and they say a host of exciting exhibitions and events are planned for 2024.

Currently, visitors are enjoying UNEARTHED, a collection of vibrant and intuitive abstract landscape paintings by award-winning Liverpool artist Hilary Dron and Surrey based painter Tamara Williams, showing until 14th October.

Submissions are also currently open for the gallery’s annual Open Exhibition (30 November – 20 January 2024), with submissions being accepted at thelakegallery.co.uk until Sunday 22 October.

The gallery is open Thursday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm.
