Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Murphy has announced the launch of training sessions in West Kirby.
Murphy, who was twice-capped for Ireland, began his career in 1998 with Tranmere Rovers before securing a move to the Premier League to join West Bromwich Albion. He has also played for Walsall, Sunderland, Scunthorpe United, Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Chesterfield and, most recently, Shrewsbury Town.
The goalkeeper, who lives in West Kirby, said he wanted to share his experience with budding young goalkeepers in Wirral, as well as helping to keep young people fit and healthy.
He added: “I love coaching and will be looking to pursue this full time after my playing career finishes.
“I can provide goalkeeper specific training, outfield player training or general fitness training to keep our kids fit and healthy.
“I welcome boys/girls from the age of 6 and above and will also do sessions with adults if they want to roll back the years and dust down their training kit!”
Murphy, who is a qualified coach and is fully insured and DBS checked, will lead the 45 minute, socially distanced sessions. They can be 1:1 or small group sessions.
They will take place in Ashton Park from 4pm-8pm, Monday – Friday, and cost £20 or £30 for siblings.
Due to safeguarding rules from the FA, a parent/guardian needs to be present throughout the whole session.
