It’s that time of the year again – here’s our pick of fireworks and bonfire events to attend near West Kirby and Hoylake this weekend:

West Kirby Sailing Club

West Kirby Sailing Club will run its annual fireworks display on Saturday 5th November, starting at 18.30.

The event has been run every year since 1946. The fireworks display started just after the last war, for club members’ children, and to form bonds & relationships with  the local community, throwing open the club doors to all their neighbours and in doing so to thank them for their forbearance.

For over 70 years the bonfire / fireworks has been a major event on the Wirral.

Today the event, run in Aid of the RNLI, is a contributor to the total running costs of the Hoylake and West Kirby Life Boat Station.

The club will be open from 5pm and refreshments will be available.

RIVER OF LIGHT – SATURDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2016

The River Mersey will light up this bonfire night with one of the most ambitious fireworks events in the country.

The British Fireworks ‘Champion of Champions’ will launch a spectacular display from three special pontoons moored in the river, which is scheduled to start at 6:30pm and will last for around 20 minutes.

There will also be the Twister Aerobatic Team who are renowned for their ‘heart in the mouth’ aerial performances which will see pyrotechnic effects stream from the wings of each of the two Silence Twister aircrafts. They will wow the thousands expected to line both sides of the Mersey from around 4.40pm.

With an extensive promenade – stretching from New Ferry to New Brighton – Wirral’s Mersey shoreline offers some of the best viewing points.

Wirral Community Firework Displays

Wirral’s traditional community bonfire and firework displays have been rescheduled to take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday, November 6, this year. Admission is free.

This year, however, there will only be three displays as follows:

Saturday 5th November: Mayer Park, Bebington at 6.30pm

Sunday 6th November: Birkenhead Park and in Lingham Park, Moreton, at 6.30pm

These replace displays which usually take place at Upton Park, Woodchurch Leisure Centre, Central Park, Wallasey and Mersey Park. This is due to a lack of available first aid cover.
