Residents are being asked to put their green bin out when refuse collections resume following a six day walkout.

Staff working for Biffa will begin work again on Sunday 11 December, with household collections starting on Monday.

Litter bin collections, bulk bin collections, including schools, and bulky waste collections were also affected by the dispute, which centres around a request by unions for a cost of living wage rise.

Wirral Council said: “Residents who would normally have their green general waste bin collected week commencing 5 December will have their green bin collected the following week, (starting 12 December) instead of their grey recycling bin.

“Their green bin will then be collected again on week commencing 19 December and the usual collection routine then continues.”

Customers who should have had a garden waste collection – which was supposed to be the last collection before the service paused for winter – will receive an additional one in the first week of January, on their usual collection day.

Residents who had booked a bulky waste collection during the period of industrial action will be contacted to have their collection rearranged.

The council says Biffa staff would have to ballot for any further strike action and advance notice would be provided.
