Wirral Council has received enquiries from three organisations wanting to lease the former Hoylake Library building.

The tourism, communities, culture and leisure committee has agreed a recommendation from officers to market the site for commercial leasing or sale, following its closure last year due to budget cuts.

A bid by The Life Tree to use the building to host book clubs and story time sessions, as well being a base for community groups and events, was judged not to be viable.

Committee member, Councillor Michael Collins, said they had looked “extensively” at the Life Tree’s proposal: “It is sad we are actually putting this on the market, but what I will say to everybody is that has been looked at at our workshops.”

The council’s Director of Resources, Shaer Halewood, told councillors that since the recommendation had been published, they have had interest in the site.

She said: “Two of those organisations are from a health and wellbeing sector background and one of them is from an educational sector. So we are hopeful that we will be able to actually conclude a lease for the committee to agree.”
