Wirral Council has launched a business toolkit to help local firms make the most of the Open golf championship, which will see tens of thousands of visitors descend on Hoylake and West Kirby in July.

The formal ticketed practice days of The Open take place on 16 to 19 July, with most visitors are expected to start to arrive from Saturday 15 July. The busiest days will be the Championship days which are 20 to 23 July.

The toolkit provides tips and information to help businesses make the most of the event and give a warm welcome to all those who attend.

It includes suggestions such as:

  • Opening earlier and closing later
  • Changing delivery times due to extra traffic
  • Being ‘Open friendly’ by providing information such as tee times
  • Getting the appropriate license for a special event or street trading

It also includes information about the event and some of the preparations that have been made so far, including transport, parking, and accommodation, to help businesses plan.

The guide can be downloaded at https://www.wirral.gov.uk/files/open-toolkit-businesses.pdf/download?inline.

Residents and business managers can also drop-in to the Council’s Open Championship information office in the former clubhouse of Hoylake Municipal Golf Course to view the plans and ask any questions they may have. The opening hours are:

May: Monday – Wednesday 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4.30pm
June and July: Monday – Friday 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4.30pm
August: Monday – Wednesday 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4.30pm
