Wirral Council is sending letters to people in parts of West Wirral about a temporary change to bin collections while the borough hosts The Open Golf Championship.

Tens of thousands of visitors a day are due to be coming to see the event at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake from 16 – 23 July.

The letters are now going out to residents in Hoylake, West Kirby and Meols who will have their bin collection day changed that during week only to let them know of the new collection day.

Collections will return to their usual schedule from 24th July. Residents are asked to have their bins out at their usual collection point by 7am on the rearranged day and to help ease congestion to ensure that bins are safely stored off pavement once they have been emptied.

The rearranged bin collections could be completed by a different crew to the usual one, however if a bin collection is missed, residents are asked to report this to the council via the website as soon as possible at: www.wirral.gov.uk/recycling.

  • The council is also operating a drop-in information centre for residents (open Mon-Fri 9am-12pm & 1pm- 4:30pm during June and July) at Hoylake Municipal Golf Club, Carr Lane, Hoylake, CH47 4BG.
