A Wirral distillery has created a special liqueur for this year’s Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake.

Managing Director of Tappers Artisan Spirits, Dr Steve Tapril, explained they were commissioned by the club to make Kümmel, a distilled liqueur made with all-natural ingredients to an authentic German recipe.

It is the first time a UK firm has made the drink, which has a long association with golf dating back almost a century.

The label features the club logo and an image of the legendary John Ball, a Royal Liverpool member who was the first amateur player to win The Open.

Kümmel is commonly referred to in the golfing community as ‘putting mixture’, and is exclusively available at the club for The Open.
