The lake at Ashton Park is to be dredged next month for the first time in almost 30 years.

The Friends of Ashton Park first raised concerns about an accumulation of sludge and debris back in 2016, and more than a thousand people signed a petition asking for the work.

The work was delayed by the pandemic and modern environmental regulations but is set to start in mid-November, funded by Wirral Council.

In a post on their Facebook page, the Friends of Ashton Park said: “Set up on the site and delivery of equipment is expected to start on 6 November.

“Dredging/desilting of the lake it expected to start on 13 November and take two weeks to complete.

“Our thanks to Wirral Council for funding and undertaking the work.”

Parking restrictions will be in place on part of Westbourne Road to allow access via Westbourne Hall car park.

A public drop-in session is being held from 9am – 1pm on Saturday 11 November at the pavilion, opposite the bowling green, for residents to meet contractors from Ebsford Environmental who are carrying out the work.
