The funeral of West Kirby Grammar School pupil Jessica Baker takes place on Friday 27 October.

The 15-year-old was killed, along with coach driver Stephen Shrimpton, when the bus he was driving overturned on the M53 near Eastham in September.

Her family revealed she planned to have a career in sport, and was due to begin coaching qualifications later this year.

They said: “Jessica was a talented and dedicated climber who competed over the last seven years of her life across the UK representing both the North West and Wales.

“Jessica loved all sports and chose GCSE PE as one of her options, but her overriding passion was for both indoor and outdoor climbing.

“Despite being a teenager, Jessica was able to communicate with everyone she came into contact with regardless of their age. She was often seen offering support to fellow climbers on how to achieve a problem/route they were trying to complete.”

A fundraising appeal to build a climbing wall at West Kirby Grammar School in her memory has so far received 1,600 individual donations and exceeded its £30,000 target.

Her funeral takes place at St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Blacon at 12:30pm, followed by a committal at Blacon Crematorium at 2pm.
