Planning permission has been granted for 38 retirement apartments on the site of the former Brookfield Nursing Home on Grange Road in West Kirby.

It was demolished in 2019 after plans were approved to replace it with a new residential care home.

However the site was then acquired by Churchill Retirement Living, who submitted a proposal for a new scheme – which has now been approved by planning officers at Wirral Council.

It will see the construction of what are described as “a collection of luxury one and two bedroom retirement apartments”.

A report accompanying the decision states: “The overall scale and design of the proposed building complements the existing style of Brookfield Gardens where visually the development will have the most impact.

“The layout of the site, the building lines across the site and the access point in from Grange Road is considered to work successfully in terms of sitting with the established landscape and in relation to neighbouring properties and the mix of design styles within the immediate area.

“The design of the building is therefore acceptable and will not harm the overall character of the area.”

The complex will also include communal gardens, owners’ lounge and a coffee bar with free wifi.

The site will have a manager, and there will also be a 24 hour emergency alarm and a guest suite for friends and family.
