Evening opening returns to West Kirby library next month.

It is one of four central libraries in the borough to trial opening until 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays – the others are Bebington, Birkenhead and Wallasey.

Six community libraries will also have extended hours to include opening on four weekdays, plus every Saturday morning.

Wirral Council said: “This improved offer provides an additional 91 hours per week across the library service and improve residents’ access to books, technology, study space and all other services provided at the local library.”

From Monday 3 April, the opening hours of each library will be:

Central libraries
  • Bebington, Birkenhead, Wallasey and West Kirby – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday open 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Tuesday and Thursday open 9am – 7pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch)
Community libraries
  • Beechwood – open Friday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Saturday open 9am – 1pm on alternate weeks.
  • Eastham and Moreton – open Tuesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Saturday, open 9am – 1pm.
  • Greasby and Heswall – open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Saturday, open 9am – 1pm.
  • Leasowe – open Monday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch).
  • Rock Ferry and Upton – open Monday to Thursday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Saturday, open 9am – 1pm.
  • Seacombe – open Tuesday and Thursday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch)
  • St James – open Monday and Thursday 9am – 5pm (closed 1pm-2pm for lunch). Saturday, open 9am – 1pm alternate weeks.
