A new photography exhibition tracking the development of the new flood wall in West Kirby is to open at a Wirral art gallery.

Life Line is set along the promenade and is on display from 2 September until 28 October at the Williamson Art Gallery, on Slatey Road in Birkenhead.

It features the work of Jonathan Cooper, who studied photography at Withens Lane College in Wallasey, where his tutors included the renowned street photographer Tom Wood. Having previously worked in London and Australia, he is now based in Wirral.

Described as “employing magical realism and unique printing techniques”, it is said the photographs “place their inhabitants in a dreamlike world”.

Jonathan began the work when the old West Kirby promenade still existed, and the images track the development of the new flood defence scheme.

He will be giving a talk about the photographs on Saturday 7 October from 12-1pm (admission is free).

The Williamson Art Gallery’s opening hours are:

Wednesday and Thursday: 10am – 5pm

Friday: 10am – 9pm

Saturday 10am – 5pm
