Wirral Council is offering people the chance to request commemorative plaques on West Kirby flood wall.

However the stainless steel tributes come at a price – between £400 and £900 depending on the size and how long you lease the space on the wall.

Is that to pay to get birkenhead sorted seen as that's doubled

I think friends of Coronation gardens do memory plaques much cheaper. They work really hard looking after "the Corries"

That's a lot of money for something you don't even own. There are other ways in which to honour a memory which will have a positive impact - plant trees, donate to the deceased's favourite charity etc.

I'm ok with commemorative plaques but it becomes a bit much when flowers and trinkets are left there too like they do in New Brighton. Theyare seats for everyone and not a grave or cemetery.

That's somewhat excessive.

R I P Wirral council

One decent indelible sharpy ....job done...Hundreds saved !

I want to go to beach, not cemetery

Getting them in now, before the storms in October smash them to bits 👍

Gotta make money somehow lol 🤣

Maybe the revenue could be used to clear up dog poo and prosecute the owners. The promenade is a literal sh*t show.

Well, that’s one way to make some £££….

They've got to make up for the overspend I suppose... is the flood retention, sorry, prevention, actually no - retention wall long enough?

Should have listened to local residents and done your research, it cost a fortune on a brick wall that doesn't work!!.... they want to charge people to park down there, the town's trade is dying.... and now you want to ask for money from people to pay for a plaque on a wooden bench.... get rid of your overpayed staff, and bonuses, go out and about in the wirral and look at what is going on with all these stupid decisions being made and for once in your lives listen to your public....

The amount being charged is obscene. Especially as everyone is being crushed under the cost of living crisis. This is nothing more than an insensitive money making scheme designed to exploit grieving people. Shameful. 🤬

Shocking taking advantage of grief! Shame on them.

Got to pay for something that doesn't work somehow I guess

Got to get their money someway .

That’s expensive tbh.

Don’t give them cretins any money

😂😂😂 rip off

sickening expensive. hope no deal.

Well done to Rotary Wirral Coastal Walk who put a lot in to arrange this walk, so that this can happen. Very impressed with these students, well done!! 🥰

A great example for other young people 👏
